I'm not sure either party had a lot of choice. She's suing for $40 million. That might be a bit high, but it was discovered the school had been told by a teacher that the student had a gun in his backpack and was showing it to other students. If that proves true and the school did not act, that's pretty gross negligence.

She resigned. But did she resign immediately or at the end of her contract? Is her problem solely covered under workman's comp laws?

The medical bills and any disability, certainly. But not the negligence.
