    My friends on the homesteading world have reported a shortage of seeds for awhile. They are now starting to find lids and rings in short supply. Maybe by the time you need them, there will be more, but it you can vegetables or put up jams or jellies, you might want to get what you need now.

    Sadly, the new Ball lids ain't what they used to be, and cannot be reused. They still are the best, though. Wal-Mart does have a house brand (Mainstays) that is cheaper, but I find you have more failures to seal.

      Good point, Jolly. I only need lids, and I should get a few.

        There's another brand that makes some very good ceramic ones for the serious canners out there. Most likely you could still get them online.

        Please love yourself.

          I'm not serious canner, but I do some. Got both regular and wide mouths lids ordered. Not a lot, but enough.

            I have friends who use these:

            They do work, although I haven't used them. There is a learning curve associated with them, so if y'all ever decide to go that route, do some internet research.

              I mostly just do jams of summer fruit. The Ball lids are fine for me. Those or the Kerr brand are good enough for the small amounts I make.

                You might want to give the Mainstays a go, for jellies. Water bath ain't as tough on lids as pressure cookers.

                Note: I was going to make a joke about buying in bulk, but I see Lehman's is already sold out...

                  @Jolly
                  Lehmann's is popular with the Amish, and they are probably ordering early this year.
