I wondered the same thing. I made shit in restaurants for the first 2 years. Things changed once I learned how to work. (I was a very slow study.)

Writers make terrible restaurant staff.
But, restaurant staff can make exceptional writers.

She took the job to write the article. One shift a week is not going to help you truly develop the skill set to serve full time successfully AND no, the manager is not going to give you the more lucrative tables over the full time staff. In addition, it’s the working 1 shift a week that allows randomness to enter the equation. Working more hours will help even everything out.
