I don't understand why anybody would fly if a 2 hour train journey was available. Particularly in France, with such a great rail system.

If it is a big hassle getting to the train station, flying could be easier.
That is how it was in DC for me. When I was commuting to NY every week the train just didn't make sense.

That's right! TSA as everyone knows is incredibly convenient.

Yeah, but this is France. In England, it would never even occur to somebody to fly for that length of trip, and their railways are utter shit by comparison with France.

It’s a little different now. I could go from the Herndon Metro Station to NY in 3.5 to 4 hours depending on departure time, and the Acela is a far more comfortable ride than the DC-NY shuttle out of Dulles.

During 40 years living in northern VA, I rode the Metro once, from Reston to a Capitals game, round-trip. After the game it was so crowded you could just barely breathe. I realize it was the extreme case, still, that was enough.
There used to be a shuttle every 30 minutes from National and practically no security, just hop on the next flight and go, pay on the plane, cash or credit.
TSA just has to go away.

Where it’s going to suck is if you wanted to connect. Nice->CDG->JFK maybe. Who wants to take a train and then change trains in Paris to go to CDG
