Trump has been running from a more left leaning position so far. Ben Shapiro has commented on it multiple times. This is just another example.

Definitely more politically viable than a hard-line anti-abortion stance. I'm not saying it's principled, but it's politically viable. Trump's good at finger to the wind stuff like that.

I never really thought he was particularly right-wing, or conservative if you prefer. He's an opportunist, more than anything. What I always found a little puzzling was his really committed following, when he's clearly pretty cynical, and not exactly what you'd call sophisticated at covering it up.

I totally agree with you. Personally I don’t think the order is that important. It is like everything else about Trump, flexible and dependent on the opportunity at hand.
