Dolly Parton Rock Star

Her latest LP. I bet it goes platinum in a hurry. Lots of good tracks and people.

She seems like a good person overall. Pretty genuine and real.

What a class act she is. She writes and performs good music, is self-abashing ("It costs a lot of money to look this trashy"), private and generous.
I agree, Dolly’s the real deal. Not sure I would run out and buy the new album but there’s a few tunes there I would give a listen. Specifically the one together with Emmy-Lou Harris and Sheryl Crowe and the with one Chris Stapleton. The one with Warren Haynes on guitar would be worth a listen as well.

"Dolly" is an artificial construct and a persona. Not that the person behind it isn't real, but the image is carefully crafted. By action and by surgery.
She's always been a flirt, and there are some rumors in Nashville, especially in her early days. She's admitted to an affair of the heart in one of her books and an almost suicide attempt as a result, but I'm not buying the suicide story. She did have some documented depression problems at around 40.
Her strength has never been her voice, though it is a unique. Her strength is her songwriting and what she won her first awards in. I think others in her family - the whole family sings - are maybe as good at singing. I would have liked to have seen her do a full family project maybe doing the hymns and old mountain tunes they grew up with, but I don't think that has been done.
Having said all that, I've never met her. I've seen her perform a couple of times and she does a great job. She also keeps her private life very private. And by all accounts, she is an excellent businesswoman.
