Where's the Beef?

Portillo’s is good. The best? I haven’t enough experience to say. Besides, such a subjective thing.

Of course.
IMO, the problem with Portillo's is that they have seem to have lost the "originality" of the flavor. It's not bad, but it's pretty generic...and...well "bland" isn't the word. It's just not awesome like it used to be.
I'm not sure, but I think the franchise is under new management/ownership, and the quality has declined after that.
My favorite "Italian Beef" is Buona Beef. We had it for dinner last night, and I couldn't be happier. It tastes like traditional Chicago-style Italian beef. I don't think it's available outside the Chicago area, however. Our local grocer carries it - frozen, so we do it about once a month.
