Sprang a leak in my washing machine. They're building a house next door, and one of the crew tackled it after he cleaned my gutters. It turns out a rat had gotten in amongst the innards and chewed holes, many holes, everywhere. One thing and another, much running around for this part and that (him, not me). We thought he had finally fixed it this morning (the poor guy had to do all this on top of his regular work time, in this heat yet), but the minute he left to go next door, water oozed stealthily and evilly all over the floor, and I -- repairperson extraordinaire that I am, not -- was unable to stop it. Stuffed a sheet around the base and awaited his return at his lunch hour. He found another rat hole in a bit that protrudes from the drum and he fears it isn't removable, which means the whole machine is junk.

So to Copper and Jon's tree mishaps and Mik's electric woes, add a very sloppy and grubby house for me.

Maybe this should go in the 2020 thread.

Cats, you should have shut-off valves on the wall. Next time, just cut them off.

The current issue of Consumer Reports list Speed Queen as by far the most reliable machine, but you pay for them. Water usage be damned...If you don't live in a desert, I'd never have anything but a top loader with an agitator.

@Jolly My guy had shut off the water source; the leak was from residual water that was inside the machine. Thanks for the advice, Jolly.

Many moons ago I had a neighbor who was away and the second floor washer hose blew. 3 days of it. 200k worth of damage.

The house was warped on the inside. Surreal like a fun house at a carnival.

Thanks, TG. The washing machine is junk. My guy is going this morning to pick up a new machine. He recommended I get the warranty, which the store guy said "covers everything, absolutely everything. If the washer falls off the truck on the way home, it'll be covered."

I said, "Which given how this project has gone so far, it probably will. And then it'll get run over by a truck."

Along with the water problems in our mailn line, (we had two water main breaks across the street this week. Luckily the county had to fix them). We also had to buy a new washer. We picked an LG after some research. I don't go for front load washers.

This is what we selected. I do not need nor want an appliance that is connected to the internet.
