It's ridiculous. Looks like a wedding.

What did a party like that cost, I wonder.

My nephew and his wife are having their first baby (I hope we we get the last shower done before baby gets here
) and my wife is giving one of the showers.
Her MIL gave her one that is not quite as extravagant as the one posted here, but it's still waaaay more than what my wife is doing. Those types of fancy showers are for people that have more money than time or simply want to keep up appearances.
My wife and her first cousin will do the food for the wife's shower (and I bet you good money the food is better). It will be a simple church-based affair and people can drop in as they wish.
Showers are for the expectant mother to receive gifts that will help her with needed baby items. They are also an excuse for women to get together and socialize. Lastly, they are a celebration of an expectant new life.
They aren't about an exhibition of wealth or a competition between grandmothers or families.

One of the nurses I used to work with got married a while ago, and it seems she's pregnant. There was a baby shower last night, and she posted 76 (!) pictures of the shower on FB.
Isn't this just a bit much???
I don't even think I know that many people. Certainly not to invite to a baby shower.

It’s a free country.
Best wishes to the fetus(es), the expecting parent, and their families.

My sister-in-law sets up events for the local Legion. This sort of thing is a lot more common than it used to be.
