We had coffee from a Bodum on the ship and really liked it.

@mark sings the praises of the Aeropress all the time. I have little doubt that it's might fine coffee, because @mark.

But, in the AM, for a cup of stimulant Joe I love the convenience of the Bodum. Keurig always tastes a bit weal for me, and a couple of tablespoons of ground coffee and the instant-hot water dispenser, and I'm good to go.

I have a Nespresso, but the proprietary pods are expensive (about a buck each) and the coffee was never warm enough.

The brand of press is mostly irrelevant.

I use a double wall stainless press from Amazon with replaceable filter screens.

Cheap and does as well as an expensive one.

However! I just purchased a $9.00 Hario V60 02 pour over funnel and 100 non-bleached filters from Amazon for about $16.

I have done two pour overs since I got it yesterday. The first one I used Alma Bohemia Medium roasted beans from grassy creek coffee. It was incredible. I liked it much better than the French Press I made for the morning line at the local Record Shop. The second one was actually a decaf and it tasted excellent.

The Aeropress remains a favorite as well but I am experimenting with all sorts of methods of making coffee from espresso to everything short of a pod and automatic drip machine. Those are not even on my radar.

We had a Nepresso in our room. It was OK for espresso, but the coffee cups it made were very small. We had a pot of coffee delivered every morning.

If you go on a cruise, I highly recommend the suites. They are more expensive, but that's because they are worth it.

How much coffee to you put into that, Mark? It's 35 ounces, so it's a bit more than I usually drink, but...

Just ordered a Bodum - 34 oz. Looking forward to it with the Kona, which we will probably start ordering if we can find a reputable source.

I tend to nurse my coffee over about an hour, perhaps a bit more, so I like the insulated mug.

@George-K I do not fill it to the top.

I use 30 grams of ground coffee beans. Using my Baratza Encore grinder, I set it at the 15-20 grind setting for FP duty.

Then I pour 100 grams of water in stir vigorously, and let it bloom for 30-45 seconds. Then I pour in an additional ~350 grams of water and let it sit for an additional 3+ minutes for a total of 4 minutes steeping time. The I press it down.

If the coffee is too strong, add water to taste. If it is too weak, then up the dose of beans to 35 grams or reduce the 2nd pour by 50 grams until you reach your desired level of taste.

If you use pre-ground coffee, then you will have to play with dosage and water volume. One you hit the desired level of strength and taste, just repeat that recipe.

                    I started with this advice...

After all of that, I still do espresso as my main coffee making technique. Then I can do whatever I want with it from there. Latte, Cappuccino, Americano.

I usually start the day with a latte so I can keep practicing the whole latte art thing. People seem to like it when I serve them. Then I usually do a straight espresso. Then, either another latte (for practice) or another espresso.

I am usually done by then with caffeine. In the late afternoon or evening if I feel like having coffee, I have found two excellent sources for decaf beans. I still grind fresh for that is the only way I know to make an acceptable cup of decaf. For my decaf drinks I mostly use the Aeropress. Now that I have the V60 I will be doing pour overs to get better at that technique.

Been that way for forty years or more. Still use my original pour over funnel. I think I paid $2 at the local grocery store for it.

My first choice preference is for this dark roast bean:

I drink coffee very black and unsweetened.

As it should be. Hugs to you, Renauda, for being so smart.
