What your ATF is spending your money on:

In the meantime, there are scads of Chinese-made auto-sears floating around the gun community. And they work.

The ATF should reward them for encouraging people to waste ammo.

The things don't work. Even the gunsmiths at the ATF had a hard time making them work.

Maybe they've got some kind of grounds for trying to hide illegal activities by channeling money (withdrawals designed to be under the reporting limit), but that's mighty thin gruel for actual manufacture of machine guns.

And, as I said, it's easy to find Chinese-made, drop-in auto-sears for AR-15's right now. Those are blazingly illegal.

          Is incompetence a valid defense?

Ok...You decide you're going into the LSD business. It's not hard to make and with the cyclical nature of illicit drugs, ought to be back in favor pretty soon. You set your lab up at home, turn out your product and someway you screwed up getting that O2 molecule attached. It ain't LSD, but it's pretty close.

You sell it on the street as LSD, but the only way your customer is getting a trip, is to call Uber.

            Did you commit a crime?
