      We had that statue, or an exact replica of it, in Eden Park above the river. Thieves cut it off at the legs and stole it for scrap metal. Disgusting. It had been there since the 30's.

            A common refrain is that things like that can be replaced but people cannot be replaced. The persuasiveness of that argument sometimes fails.

              Art is the most direct way people from hundreds of years ago communicate with us. Knowledge and science is ephemeral, though ever-increasing. Art is the timeless stuff.

              Education is extremely important.
