I must admit, they're a pain in the arse. People just chuck the bloody things on the ground. When we moved into the new house, there were a load of them just thrown in the bushes, it took ages to clear them away.
People are disgusting. Presumably it's mostly kids and folk who are to cheap to buy an actual drink in a pub.

It's kind of funny, since it's already illegal to drink in the street in Mass. Fucking puritans.
When I was a kid, those horrible little ring-pulls were everywhere - the streets were covered in them - at least, the bits that weren't covered in cigarette butts. Then somebody invented the ring pull that stayed attached to the can. A miracle occurred overnight.
Maybe somebody can think of something clever.
