AFAIK, he just tested positive. He did the test after attending an event where two people came down with the virus, and was concerned, since he had had part of a lung removed earlier.

The “optometry” bit was wrong.
Rand Paul graduated from Duke with an M.D. degree and did his residency in ophthalmology.
