Today's walk.

About a third of a mile from my house, I have to cross the local river. When I did, I was struck at how pretty the scenery was, and snapped a photo:

And walking back while your clothes dry from the river crossing is such a clever way to beat the heat!

This was in the early part of my walk, as I said, about ⅓ of a mile from home. After another 5 ½ miles, my clothes were by no means dry.

George lives in a wonderful community designed by Frederick Olmsted - and that park where George was walking rarely has much in the way of people. It is a treasure.

Kluurs USED TO live in a wonderful community designed by Frederick Law Olmsted - until he got all snooty and moved up north....

Actually, it's quite a remarkable town.

We've lived here since 1980.

Yes, 1980, and it's our third home in this town.

When we moved in, the joke was "When you move in, you'll never move out - you might find a new home, but it'll always be in this town."

It's true.

In our condo, there are 22 units, and of them, more than half are owned by people who have lived here before. The standard line is, "Oh you bought the 'Smith' house? Nice place."

It will always be the "Smith" house, until you sell it. Then it'll be the "George K" house.

But, as I said years ago, the next time I move, it'll be feet-first.

My former house was there. They had an open house last weekend. I wish I could have done a walk through as it's been about 25 years since I've been in it.

The face in the chimney was "Columbia" - as the house was built by the Mayor of Chicago for the Columbian Exposition.

Ma'am, you dredge for bodies with an overgrown steel treble hook. And no, I ain't woof'in you. Now, back to catchin' fish instead of folks...

You catch the outside of a bend, with the current just right, set your hoop nets under the tree branches on a steep drop and you can catch opelousas (flathead to you damnyankees) cats. Mighty fine eating, indeed...

Personally, I'd fish three or three and a half footers...No leads.
