I could support that....Somebody removed our old rotten wooden deck back in October. We're still waiting for the replacement. If anybody was foolish enough to walk out the back door, they would plunge to their death, or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

      I was only joking

        DIY.

It's fun, it's challenging and you have no problem finding the right person to scream at.

No, no, no and thrice no.

My DIY skills are lamentable at best, and Mrs. Phibes knows it. I would not survive the process.

Ok, here's what I do. Mostly, anyway. Angi.com is getting worse since it was sold.

I go to Angi.com and find my contractor. it may take a few clicks to actually get to the list, then you can select reviews for the ones you are interested. No one under 4.6 stars, and the more reviews the better. I read the reviews and select a few I want to look at.

Then I go to the local BBB website and look them up. They have complaints, years in business, whether they are BBB accredited or not and for how many years.

I've never been disappointed in anyone I hired that way.

The worst way is FB. This is when you discover that your neighbors are drooling idiots who wouldn't know a good contractor from a bad one. There are so many scam artists out there.
