Just came across a pretty comprehensive analysis of the effects of marriage on taxes. It's dated 2018, so it's not skewed by any of the COVOD era temporary measure, and would not account for any changes introduced by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

I'm surprised to learn that having children exacerbates the "penalties" for married-filing-jointly couples in many cases. (See Figures 3 & 4 in the article.) I thought we'd have a tax regime that is more friendly to families with children. :man-shrugging:
