I got this....
All my life I've wanted a decent tenor sax since I saw The Pink Panther as a kid, and now finally....
I cannot even begin to tell you how pleased the rest of the family are.
A Yanagisawa?!
For those that don’t know, that’s the saxophone equivalent to Bosie 214VC or Yamaha CF6. It’s a helluva horn!
Congratulations!
Maybe not quite up there, but it is very nice. I tried a few and this was my preferred option for the budget I had
Not at all…The elephant in the room with saxophones is Selmer. They are the Steinway of saxophones to those that don’t know. I was recently at a sax symposium and they had every major brand there with samples. The Yanagisawa was clearly the winner amongst majority of those there and was the talk of the group.. It blew the Jubilee and Series III away.
A vintage Mark VI is possibly a better horn, but I tend to think that a lot of that is just nostalgia.
I did like the Yamaha Custom EX, too. The Custom Z is supposed to be the cream of the wheat, but the EX just had a better airflow for me. And I will probably be able to get a deal on one…

And I will probably be able to get a deal on one…I tried a Yamaha, but not the Custom. All the internet wisdom seems to be that Yanagisawa is easily the best value for money, and arguably with better build quality than Selmer - I tried the TWO1 and the TW010 (the 'elite' version), but couldn't really feel or hear enough of a difference to justify the extra money, plus the 010 was heavier, which I didn't like.
The Taiwanese horns are a lot better than they used to be, but not quite up there with the Yanagisawa IMHO.
I think the Mark VI's are variable. I had a friend who played one in the UK, and it wasn't really anything that special. Somebody else I vaguely knew, who incidentally ended up playing for the band Simply Red, had one that was just wonderful, but some of that could have been his playing, which was also pretty special. I think one of the reasons they're held in such high regard is that the release coincided with the golden age of jazz sax playing.

Speaking of Brits playing Sax, Matt Telfer plays on Yanagisawa horns…

I think Snake Davis does too, although I think his might be solid silver which I suspect is a bit unnecessary

Freaking awesome!
Congrats, and we must have some recordings.
My self consciousness about my playing is a bit high at the moment so I might need to wait a while before venturing into that particular territory

Every day without baker street solo recording from you is a day of abject failure.
