Let's push this "school choice" idea further ...

How about even more granular choices: "class choice", "teacher choice"?

Choose which school to go to? That's like choosing which record of pre-bundled 10~15 songs to buy or which cable TV service with pre-bundled 50 to 200 channels to subscribe to. That's so pre-2010s. Nay, just like we can now listen to different songs and watch different movies/series from different sources, students (and/or their parents/legal guardians) should be able to choose individual classes as thought by different teachers using different methods, different text books, no? Why be restricted by school boundaries and stop at "school choice"? Get more granular, go to "class choice" and "teacher choice."

More horseshoe politics. DeSantis and the woke want to eliminate AP programs.

          Only non-witches get due process.

            Doubt it very seriously.

No, they eliminated AN AP course. College Board, which administers that AP Course threatened action, and DeSantis basically said go ahead, there are other AP vendors…

I find it hard to believe that a democrat would want a child to get a good education.

This sort of thing creates non-equity.

                No justice, no peace.

@jon-nyc Given the facts of the story:

                  1. DeSantis admin rejected ONE pilot AP course, which the College Board then revised to match the guidelines.

                  2. College Board then issues apologies to various factions of the left for making corrections to the curriculum and proceeds to attack Florida guidelines and administration...

                  3. DeSantis responds by suggesting there are other vendors of AP courses out there if College Board is so distraught.

Does that sound in any way like DeSantis is trying to do away with AP courses, as it has been reported in the media?

Headline - Florida Parents and Students Blast DeSantis idea of barring AP Classes
                  https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/02/16/desantis-advanced-placement-parents-students-college-board-international-baccalaureate/

The subheadline was Students and Families will pay more for college! Oh noes!

Does that sound accurate considering the actual facts?

DeSantis threatens to Bar All AP Classes in Florida
                  https://www.insidehighered.com/quicktakes/2023/02/16/desantis-threatens-bar-all-ap-classes-florida

Does that sound accurate considering the actual facts?

These reports are everywhere. Given your post, it seems like your understanding was that DeSantis planned to do away with AP Courses. So my question is: Do you find the reporting on this issue to be disingenuous at best and outright fabrication at worst? Does it bother you at all that the at the Newspaper that claims Democracy Dies in Darkness and is the paper of choice for many of your peers would lie and distort the actual facts so much in an effort to sway sentiment? Does this disturb you at all?

Who, besides the College Board, offers AP courses (more specifically, the curriculum and associated testing and reporting of test results to higher education institutions)?

I am no fan of the College Board (a private entity, though non-profit, is nonetheless a "business") having some sort of monopoly in this sort of thing.

But as it is, the College Board has the term "Advanced Placement" registered with the ® , even Google cannot find me an alternate vendor for AP courses.

McGraw Hill for one. There are numerous smaller publishers in the Homeschool market.

Reminder, College Board has 2 parts to this. The coursework and the test administrations. The coursework is irrelevant to taking the AP Tests. You do not need to take the courses to take and pass the tests.

Florida schools can purchase Curriculum from McGraw Hill designed to pass the College Boards AP Tests in other states. You can also hire another Test Administration Company for Florida State Colleges to administer their own tests based on similar standards. There countless out there

It would also be easy enough to produce new curriculum and tests in state, especially from a state university that already offers DE curriculum.

Now Ax, do you find it disingenuous of WaPo to present it that way?
