    https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/02/cash-strapped-twitter-to-start-charging-developers-for-api-access-next-week/

Lots of third parties have integrated Twitter API calls into their software/platforms/services, and they have been doing a lot of that essentially for free. But Elon says Twitter will start charging developers for making Twitter API calls on 2023 February 9, threatening that those who refuse to pay will find that their Twitter API calls won’t work after that.

Specific to TNCR’s Twitter plug-in, for sure it depends on Twitter API calls, but I am not sure whether Twitter will consider it in a category that will get caught up in the scheme to require payment for API calls come Feb. 9. So if Twitter embedding “stops working” on or soon after Feb. 9, this is probably the reason.

I don't even pretend to understand how any of this works, and I have the most rudimentary understanding of "API" (Is that how computers work?).

However, one thing I read suggested that this is not so much about revenue but about bots.

Again, I don't understand any of this, other than to say maybe there's more to it than obvious.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Hopefully they won’t disable it for read only applications like ours.

Especially if it’s aimed at bots.

        You were warned.
