This is another big production with such great cinematography and epic graphics that it should be seen on the big screen (i.e., better not to wait for streaming, catch it while still in theaters). Directed by Frant Gwo. Sci-fi action-adventure.
Despite the numerology, the stories told in Wandering Earth 2 happens before the stories told in the original Wandering Earth (2019) movie. As a movie, it surpasses the original. The original is already very good, this one improved even further on pretty much everything — direction, storytelling, acting, fantastic special effects and computer graphics that should be watched on the big screen.
Overall arc is about the Sun dying/expanding, so the human race on Earth have to do something to survive the dying/expanding Sun. The human race settle on building 10,000 large scale propulsion blasters to move the Earth to Alpha Centauri and a corresponding scheme to decouple the Moon from the Earth (the Moon plays a significant role in this movie). Among other competing ideas is one to survive through virtualization — upload human memories/consciousness into the virtual world and seek to extend the human race virtually. This idea also plays a significant role too move the plot along. Quantum computing is also a significant element in the movie. This movie gets you to the point where the human race started the Eartha’s 2,500 year journey to Alpha Centauri.
Oh … a humorous friendly dig at the Russians too regarding their manual detonation design.
