Maybe occam's razor is that he was lying to impress a date, just like he said. In which case maybe it does sound nefarious.

The date was definitely a guy though, I think we can all agree on that. Not that I'm a biologist.

I was just going to reply, 40 years ago he would have been trying to destroy the evidence that he was gay…
