This character was played by a movie star in a 1990's movie, by a movie star in a 1960's tv show and by a movie star in a 1950's radio show. The tv and radio show were both on NBC. And for the tv show, the actor portraying the character provided his own wardrobe...Out of his closet.

Who was the character? And who were the three movie stars who portrayed him on the radio, the tv and in the movies?

            Nope.

Remember, this is three different movie stars, three different media.

Also remember, the radio show, the tv show and the movie all have the same name.

A small hint...After looking at each star's IMDB filmography, each has over 100 entries. One has over 200 entries.

So based on your new clues, it’s a western. Gunsmoke, Bonanza, or the Rifleman.

Nope, it was always movie stars.

And it wasn't a western. Far from it

Not a detective, but definitely a book character. The character was introduced before WW2...

I would say Superman but there are a lot more than three people portraying him, but he was on radio, tv and film.

There has been more than one actor portray this character, (maybe as many as five on radio), but these three we are talking about are household names. Over 400 cites between them on IMDB's filmography lists.

Hint: The actor who portayed this character on the small screen, later brought many of the character's mannerisms to a different role in seven major motion pictures...

I thought it was maybe Lamont Cranston (The Shadow). I found radio, Vimeo and movies, starring Victor Jury, Orson Welles, and Alec Baldwin respectively. But it never made it to TV.
