    From a FB group.

So, we've all had the experience of asking a surgeon or OR staff what kind of music they want to listen to, and being told "I'll listen to anything". I've constructed a playlist that shows, that no, no you won't listen to anything.

I should note that I, except for three pieces, I don't think any of this is bad music, or particularly annoying, but almost all of it is outside of the current mainstream.

Frankie Yankovic And His Yanks - Tick Tock Polka (Polka)
Arnold Schoenberg - Suite for Piano, Op. 25: I. Präludium (Atonal)
Jakez Pincet - Lament for Donald of Laggan (Piobaireachd piping)
Yantra - Gel Yano (Bulgarian Folk Music)
Captain & Tennille - Muskrat Love (Traditional Pop)
Gheorghe Zamfir - The Lonely Shepherd (Pan Pipes)
Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God (Swedish Metal)
Anonymous - Salve festa dies (Gregorian Chant)
Koto Ensemble Of The Ikuta School, Japan - Shockikubai (Koto) (Classical Japanese)
Otyken - Storm (Indigenous Siberian Folk Rock)
The Red Shadow Singers - Ghost Dance Song (Native American)
Andy Williams - Born Free (Traditional Pop)
Ravi Shankar - Shanti-Mantra (Classical Indian)
Zillertaler Schürzenjäger - Solo Jodler (Polka with yodeling)
Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlán - El Mariachi Loco (Traditional Mexican)
Rick Dees And His Cast Of Idiots - Disco Duck - Pt. 1 Vocal (Novelty Song)
Huun-Huur-Tu - Prayer (Tuvan Throat Singing)
Sabaton - Winged Hussars (Swedish Metal)
Various Artists - Gaudeamus Igitur (Medieval drinking song)
Donny Osmond - Puppy Love (Traditional Pop)
    CircusP - iNSaNiTY (Vocaloids)
Andrei Krylov - Greensleeves variations (Renaissance Lute)
The Trashmen - Surfin' Bird (Novelty Song)
Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream (Pop Jazz)
The Watersons - The Greenland Whale Fishery (Traditional English Folk)
The Choir of St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral - Holy, Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty (Anglican Hymn)
Leslie Fish - A Pict Song (Filk song)
    Carpenters - Superstar (Traditional Pop)
Gordon Macrae - Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin' - From "Oklahoma!" Soundtrack (Showtunes)
    Merzbow - Woodpecker No. 1

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Has Chopin's Sonata No. 2 ever made it to your OR playlist?

Or, for that matter, has it ever made it to anyone else's OR playlist?

Actually, yes. One time I had established a good relationship with a patient and we were joking around before the surgeon entered the room. I asked if he had any music request before I go him off to sleep. He asked for something cheerful, so that’s what I played.

I also worked with a heart surgeon who liked Swedish Death Metal.

You and I listened to very different things, George.

The restaurant I worked in for all of high school and most of college would never spring for a CD player for the kitchen, so we had to pool our money together for one. Except it had to have serious speakers to contend with the noise, so it was a little pricey. And, we had to get a new one every couple months or so because the steam would just destroy the electronics.

Our music selection process was not democratic. Whoever was most senior on the shift picked the music, end of story. But everyone was into such different things, and during the summer I always worked overtime—10 hours a day, every day for 5-6 days. I listened to an absolute shitload of music back then. Here's what I remember clearly:

            Allman Brothers - Jessica
            Aretha Franklin - Think
            Cake - Short Skirt/Long Jacket
Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up
            Dropkick Murphys - Good Rats
Earth, Wind and Fire - September
James Brown - Get Up Offa That Thing
Louis Jordan & His Tympany Five - Beans and Cornbread (we almost always played this for closing)
            Rush - Force Ten
            The Specials - Little Bitch
The Temptations - Papa Was a Rolling Stone
            Yes - Roundabout

            Please love yourself.

The Watersons - The Greenland Whale Fishery

                Good choice.

                That’s quite the eclectic playlist.

I often like listening to 1930s - 1940s big band jazz and swing while I work at various projects. Big Artie Shaw fan I am.

                Elbows up!
