Designer: So what were you thinking?

Miss USA: Well, something elegant, but not too plain. You know something that shows that I am patriotic, but also have a sense of style and class.

Designer: Best I can do is an exploding flag robot running away from an Indiana jones boulder

The perfect costume for the Miss Universe competition would be a combination of elegance, glamour, and cultural representation. It would be a floor-length gown made of luxurious materials such as silk or satin, with intricate beadwork or embroidery to add a touch of sparkle and shine.

The design of the gown should be both classic and modern, with a silhouette that flatters the wearer's figure and highlights her best features. The cut of the dress should be elegant and sophisticated, with a train or a dramatic back design for added drama.

The color of the dress should be a neutral tone such as gold, silver or white, which would make the contestant stand out on stage and make her look like a true queen.

The costume should also reflect the contestant's cultural heritage and national identity. The use of traditional fabrics, prints, and embroideries from her country would add a personal touch to the costume and make it truly unique.

In summary, the perfect costume for the Miss Universe competition would be a combination of elegance, glamour, cultural representation, and a nod to the contestant's heritage, all in a beautiful and well-crafted gown that flatters the wearer's figure and makes her stand out on stage.

Almost 50 years ago, I remember watching the Miss Universe contest with a roommate. We were disappointed when they announced the "Edwardian gown" segment - expecting to see the women in a gown from neck to ankle. BUT when the women walked out in the gowns, we were amazed to notice that the gowns appeared to be a highly fitted sheet wrapped tightly around them with no undergarments to restrict any parts of the anatomy. It was...a very moving experience.

In fairness, the white male patriarchy systematically celebrates spousal abuse every day.

"The Miss Universe pageant–which proclaims to find the most beautiful woman every year in the entire universe, but only has contestants from planet Earth (disappointing)–has incorporated some kind of “dress like your country took a hit of acid and hired RuPaul to make your outfit” event. Maybe it’s because it’s being held in New Orleans. Is it “dress like a parade float”? I don’t know."
