Am sitting here, waiting on labs to be drawn. If I would have known their system was so screwy, I'd have drawn my own work.

They're squalling because they have eight or nine patients in que. A bad day in my old outpatient lab was 120+ (8 hour shift) for two phlebes.

These guys are victims of a bad check-in system, a bad screening system and a bad point of service system.

And they don't even know it.

Not unusual. My place is pretty fast once you get back there but requires two check-ins.

My labcorp place really sucks. It's only tolerable with an appointment and an early one at that.

Mine is super. Never any lines (if you get there early enough), everybody competent and sweet and friendly, and never any errors.

My place has two areas for bloodwork, that I know of.

One is just outside the doctors' offices. All the IM offices are on the 16th floor of the building. If the doc wants something ordered, it goes into Epic and you walk down the hall for venipuncture. There's rarely more than 1-2 people ahead of you.

The other is on a separate floor. That's where you go if the doc wants something checked in 3 months (without a visit). Check in takes no time, and there's usually about a 15 minute wait until you're called. I've never waited more and 20 minutes, even in mid-morning.

For the blood work as part of my annual this year, I don't think I spent 5 minutes in the office.

The lady was ready when I showed up a few minutes early. She took the blood, gave me a band-aid and I was on my way home.

                Big chain, or small office?
Can you offer consulting service to improve their operations?

Thar's gold in them thar hills. Got to be an easier way to leverage technology. Ought to be able to complete any needed paperwork and get a check-in time on your phone, as soon as your orders drop. Walk in the door, give them two unique identifiers, get banded and queued.
