    Came across this yesterday. I'll be interested to see what @Renauda thinks.

    The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

      @George-K

      Not a bad overview of the events for a 20 minute presentation.

      It does however fail to convey how Chechens and the breakaway Chechen republic were viewed by not only Russians but the West as well. In short, the Chechens were thought of as lawless Islamic fanatics bent on establishing an Islamic republic throughout the northern Caucasus. Think Taliban and ISIS. There was really little or no sympathy for their cause outside the Muslim world. It is disingenuous then for the amateur historian to say that the US cynically sent aid to Georgia and nothing to Chechnya. Of course it didn’t, Chechens were supporting the Islamic-Fascist cause led by Bin Laden.

      I recall a PBS Frontline doc from around 2005 that explored the Chechen War and how Russia had turned the place into a parking lot. It was even shocking for Chechen “haters” like me, to learn of what had occurred there. I wonder if it is still available in the archives? It is worth watching.

      Elbows up!
