        I love the English and bull mastiff breeds. Quiet, gentle giants. If they bark, you know there is a problem.

        We used to have them when my husband and I were first married. I have a great picture of my eldest daughter (maybe at 7 yrs old?) with her head next to one of the bull mastiffs, and his head was bigger than hers. Then there's another one of our cat with half of her body inside the dog's ear; she would go in there to clean it.

        But those dogs don't live very long, and each death broke my husband's heart. So, now we have pugs.
