I don’t know how close the FBI was to these particular guys, as I haven’t looked into it. But usually when the feds know about a huge (say) drug deal, they don’t prevent it and let the criminals free, they let it go down and then put the perps in prison.
Do you think the amount of security at the Capitol was reasonable given what the FBI knew of the rioters?

To what extent do you think this line of questioning is simply an attempt to deflect blame from your political movement?

I think it's important, because it presents a clear binary:
- The FBI knew the riot was going to take place and did nothing, which is appalling and says a lot about the FBI.
- The riot was spontaneous, catching everybody off-guard, and was not planned. That pretty much means there was no planned conspiracy.

I've admitted that the rioters were idiots, not least because of how they played into the hands of the political opposition. Now I'm considering how that opposition played their hand.
I've never heard a leftist speak of the lack of security at the Capitol, amidst their wailing about existential threats and the balance on which our very democracy hung that day. Their reaction is obviously performative, though not necessarily at a conscious level. We are dealing with evolved apes after all. Their tell is not in the hand wringing over the existential threat, but rather in their lack of worry about what might have been done to prevent it. Imagine a foreign enemy invading a country, and the post mortem conversation entirely ignoring defence measures.
But the thought experiment where the rioters were identical but the security increased, is informative, for those interested in a clear eyed view of the factors involved in the outcome, and the messaging now allowed by it. Jan 6 would be a yawnable footnote if it had culminated in idiots beating on locked doors. And that would have been less preferable to the left.

I don't know much about FBI presense at the riot - but couldn't it just be the case that they send a few people to high risk events? I don't think we know their criteria for deployment.
Doesn't necessarily mean they knew what was going to happen.

I read the this BBC article earlier today on the same.

Old man Rhodes sounds like a complete kook.

They had embedded assets.

So did I, the last time I was with jon's sister.
