I think the headline may be a bit misleading. What is a bit odd is that they rented cars at all. Don't think they rent armored vehicles. Maybe the airport on Nantucket cannot accommodate planes big enough to transport the vehicles.

It could be a secondary detail and not the guys that actually are part of the motorcade. Guys that scope out locations, man rooftops, etc

I didn't see any mention of the Beast (presidential limo), but I assume it was there.

The streets in downtown Nantucket are kind of narrow, but I think it would fit.

I've landed there several times, it is big enough. Here is a picture of a C17 arriving at ACK last Sunday, that is how the Beast would be transported.
