I'll make them a deal...The government can pay off $10,000 debt for every year served in the American military. Guard service can count for half or $5K/yr.

The title is absurd on its face. You borrowed it, you spent it, now pay it back. The only one who has an oppressive debt is the Jordanian, but once again - you borrowed it. 6% is hardly usury. The other three have under $30K in debt. Pay it off at $600 to $1000 a month and you'll be done in no time. Just quite buying lattes. Treat it like a car payment, which it basically is.
Of course, if you pay the minimum, you will never pay it off. Minimums are designed that way.
I have zero sympathy for any of them. IF there truly are predatory lending practices involved, I could see altering those terms. But I didn't see anything but assertions and feels.
The Princess will have about $40K in loans when she gets out of grad school in May. We'll be talking over Christmas about how to get that paid off quickly.

I agree. It is an obligation.
