Goofy article. To my understanding, The Republican Party generally is thought to be more business friendly. So to say,

"One likely reason is that large donations to the Democratic Party buy favorable treatment from regulators and the press, which means minimal scrutiny of your business practices and free rein to keep operating (and stealing) right up until you run out of other people’s money"

on one side, and on the other complain that the Democratic Party has too many regulations on businesses, etc. seems kind of goofy.

But, I do agree that donors are trying to gain influence, no matter what party.

So, when Mr. Adelson donates USD $218 MM to the Republicans, you can be 100% sure that he is expecting some sort of return on that donation.

$218M is chump change to a big Dem donor...

From the Open Secrets page I linked above. For the 2022 cycle:

Same figures I got. The telling figure is the 88% outside money.

                  Look at organizations.

What's interesting is that, thought the totals for Republican donations exceed Democrats, individual entities, both persons and organizations seem to be clustered around just a few (Soros) where the GOP tend to be, dare I say, more diverse.

                    LOL.

I guess the Democrats get their money from 25 old white guys and the Republicans get their money from 50 old white guys.

But, the data you present just shows that each side is pretty much the same when it comes to getting money from people. Neither side can claim the moral ground on this.

You have Citizens United v FEC to thank for that.

                        Correctly decided but disastrous.
