Friend of mine had some medical problems, so he and his wife drove to Benson this last Monday. The local hospital was swamped...after seeing him in the ED, they wanted to admit him (re-infected leg wound) but there was no room at the inn and there wasn't a medicine bed within many miles. Many, many miles.
The hospital literally told him to grab a hotel room and stick around town for a few days, while they tried a different antibiotic and waited for the C&S to come back. Problem was, there wasn't a hotel or motel room available. Not in that part of the state. They were all filled with snowbirds. Likewise, he said the two local campgrounds were chock full of RV's.
He wondered how many of those folks were in town just for the election...
