VDH's Tuesday Takeaway

"Election Night also no longer exists. Returns are not counted for days. It is intolerable for a modern democracy to wait and wait for all sorts of different ballots both cast and counted under radically different and sometimes dubious conditions."
Paper ballots, one day, blue fingers.

Oh that's why I meant - VDH usually crafts a pretty good pro-Trump narrative. Not here.

QUOTE
Biden also goaded young people to vote by temporarily lowering gas prices through draining the strategic petroleum reserve, offering amnesty for marijuana offenses, and canceling half a trillion dollars of student loan debt. He told young women that they would die without unlimited abortions. And most of that mud stuck.
UNQUOTEI kind of laughed at this. Does anybody really think that any of the above (except for the last point) really made people go out and vote for the Democrat party? I may be out of touch, but I just dont imagine any of those policies having a major positive effect (for the Democrat) on this election. (Again, except for maybe the abortion)

He seems unable to recognize the fact that whilst the Democrats are unpopular, the Republicans aren’t providing a very palatable alternative. He’s blaming their lackluster performance on all the wrong things.
Would sir prefer to eat the pig shit or the horse shit?

Not that I disagree with your statement, but that is precisely what the Democrats ran on in 2020 and 2022: "Hey, we might be mediocre, but at least we're not Trump!"

And they won the first, and did much better in the second than they should have. VDH is making lots of excuses for the results, but appears to be missing the obvious.

You don't think artificially lowering gas prices had no effect on the election?

Democrats had “we will take COVID seriously” and many plans packed into “Build Back Better” in 2020, and “defend women’s right to choose” and “defend democracy” in 2022 (plus the bunch of things I listed in https://nodebb.the-new-coffee-room.club/topic/20224/what-has-the-democrats-done-in-the-last-22-months )

No I dont. From the Treasury report, if we assume the middle of the range, it equals USD$0.22. With US gas prices so high, I really doubt that gas prices going from $4.50 USD to $4.30 USD made any difference on voting from people.
QUOTE
According to an analysis from the Department of the Treasury from July, the release of oil from the SPR helped lower the price of gasoline in the US by an estimated range of 13 to 31 cents per gallon. This report covers the period from March to July of 2022.[2] This means that, without the release of crude oil from the SPR, gasoline prices could be anywhere between 13 to 31 cents higher per gallon.
