But but John Ioannidis..... and those two docs-in-a-box from Bakersfield....
Covid has no political affiliation. And now that it is okay to protest it is okay to do anything. No putting the genie back in the bottle.
And nobody has the moral high ground and nobody has the “facts” in the broadest context. Yet the news keeps trying to weave a narrative. It’s hilarious except for the consequences to the vulnerable.

Curious... that herd immunity wore off.
As did the notion that this virus ravaged the young. Thankfully we are doing a much better job of protecting the vulnerable.
But at what expense to the economy???

I think the shelter in place train has left the station. The framing of the debate now is really about the election. I believe Trump will be beat badly but people are buying lots of of insurance because of 2016.

@jon-nyc , speaking of Ioannidis...
In the paper, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, Ioannidis surveyed 23 different seroprevalence studies and found that "among people <70 years old, infection fatality rates ranged from ... 0.00-0.23% with median of 0.04%."
The median fatality rate of all cases, he writes, is 0.26%, significantly lower than some earlier estimates that suggested rates as high as over 3%.
In the paper, Ioannidis acknowledges that "while COVID-19 is a formidable threat," the apparently low fatality rate compared to earlier estimates "is a welcome piece of evidence."
"Decision-makers can use measures that will try to avert having the virus infect people and settings who are at high risk of severe outcomes," he writes. "These measures may be possible to be far more precise and tailored to specific high- risk individuals and settings than blind lockdown of the entire society."

Think he was smart enough to exclude his own due to methodological errors?

Heh. At least he admits it wasn't peer-reviewed. Maybe the NEJM or The Lancet has some suggestions on how to look at the data, LOL.

Yes, this is what matters.

California Sets Single-Day Record With Nearly 13,000 New COVID-19 Cases
Just hours after California’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed that of New York state, Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday announced another grim milestone with the state confirming a record of nearly 13,000 new positive tests in a single day.
“Yesterday, we had 12,807 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. 12,807 represents the highest reported number in our state,” Newsom said during a press briefing from inside a personal protective equipment warehouse in Sacramento where he highlighted the state’s efforts to obtain and distribute PPE.
Over the previous seven-day period, the governor noted the state had averaged 9,420 cases per day, up significantly from the previous week’s average of roughly 8,300 per day as the trendline continued to increase. The seven-day positivity rate had also risen to 7.6 percent as of Wednesday, which Newsom said was concerning.
Health officials revealed early Wednesday that California’s confirmed coronavirus cases have topped 409,000, surpassing New York for most in the nation. However, California still trails the Empire State in deaths associated with the virus.
Still not as bad as Florida, however.

I feel safer being in Maine when it comes to the virus than I would if I were in California right now.
