    Taxes? Nope. Crime.

        That's not surprising.

        Democrats like crime, republicans don't.

        To each their own.

It’s taxes, obviously, Ken just doesn’t want to sound like that guy.

Florida is not a low crime state.

In fact, not only does the murder rate in Florida exceed that of NY, the entire state of Florida actually has a murder rate that exceeds that of New York City.

Maybe Copper has a theory of why DeSantis likes it that way.

@jon-nyc would it not be a more accurate way to compare urban areas rather than the entire state to one urban area?

New York City does have a lower murder rate than cities in Florida. But all cities in Florida are lower than Chicago, and he's leaving Chicago, not NY.

But, I agree, it's probably taxes as much as anything else.

@George-K yes normally you would since cities have more crime than rural areas. But that’s the point of how bad crime is there - even statewide, which factors in lower crime areas into the average, it’s worse than NYC! It’s quite surprising actually. Not an outcome I would have expected.

@jon-nyc I don't dispute that at all. But, again, he's not moving from NYC, but out of Chicago.

Looking statewide (sorted by violent crime), DC is where you don't want to be, but that's a city. OTOH, Alaska is the winner!

Florida doesn't even make it into the top half of the country. New York is right behind.

@jon-nyc said in Chicago's richest man moving his company to Florida.:

It’s taxes, obviously, Ken just doesn’t want to sound like that guy.

Obviously taxes play a role. I suspect his list of anecdotes about muggings, stabbings, and burglaries did, too.

Florida is not a low crime state.

In fact, not only does the murder rate in Florida exceed that of NY, the entire state of Florida actually has a murder rate that exceeds that of New York City.

His specific claim was that his employees stood a lower chance of being mugged or burgled in Miami than in Chicago. Did you have some statistics that make him a liar about that?

                  Education is extremely important.

People no longer feel safe on Michigan Avenue. That alone should tell you something. Add to that an administration that coddles and basically encourages crime and it promises further decline.
