When first introduced, the Remington R51 was HORRIBLE. So bad, the company recalled all of them. Fast forward a few years...The gun has been re-released with some engineering fixes. Reviews have been more positive than bad. One of the best is Sootch's review on YouTube.
The pluses:
- It's metal, not polymer. That makes it a little heavier, but probably more durable.
- The bore axis is very low, because of the Pederson delayed action. The recoil is minimal.
- The gun is very snag-proof, even down to the rear sights.
- It looks like nothing else.
- Because of the bad initial batch, it's dirt cheap.
The minuses:
- The break-down is clunky and complicated.
- Many of the feed problems can be traced directly to the magazines. First, you need to make sure your mags are good and then, you must pay attention in the loading process, particularly the last two rounds.
- Because of the really low bore axis, guys with big or fleshy hands will sometimes get slide bite.
There are other single stack nines out there, rated for +P, that are better. There just ain't none for $250.

Multiple times. If you are not a FFL holder, they can't ship to you directly. Firearms must be shipped FFL to FFL.
Find a friendly FFL in your area (Buds has a list) and they'll handle the transaction for a small fee.
I've also used Grab-A-Gun, depending on prices of the moment. Always figure in free shipping vs. shipping charges.

About the same money, this is a closeout pistol, having been supplanted by the Taurus G3c. It's polymer framed and a bit more reliable. Trigger will drive you a little nuts because of the long reset, but you get used to it. And it has second strike capability.

IOW - wouldn't I want a gun that is intimidating because it looks so scary? I thought that was part of the allure of the AK-whatever, that it looked like a people killer, therefore everyone better be afraid of me once they see the rifle.
I think a Dirty Harry gun would be intimidating, as opposed to something small that looks almost like a toy.
I know I'm wrong in the above. But I'm thinking these things.

Third rule of a gunfight: Avoid a gunfight at almost all costs.
If you carry, carry something you will always have with you. Have something in a big enough caliber to stop a fight. And never voluntarily put yourself in a position where you have to draw your weapon.
