    He had first hand experience dealing with them as it was he who negotiated an end to the Russo-Japanese war. (Which earned him the Nobel peace prize)

    Suffice it to say he was not impressed. Both of these quotes are from letters he wrote around that time.

    “What I cannot understand about the Russian, is the way he will lie when he knows perfectly well that you know he is lying.”

    “No human beings, black, yellow or white, could be quite as untruthful, as insincere, as arrogant - in short, as untrustworthy in every way - as the Russians,”

    "You never know what worse luck your bad luck has saved you from."
    -Cormac McCarthy

      @jon-nyc said in Teddy Roosevelt on Russians:

      "... he will lie when he knows perfectly well that you know he is lying.”

      Wow. So accurate given what's happening today.

      The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

        There’s a great DeGaulle quote which resonates so much better now than when I first read it. Something like “communism will come and go, Russia is eternal”.

          @jon-nyc

          Roosevelt’s descriptive quotes are more than appropriate today. Saw this a few minutes ago on the BBC site:

            That article certainly bears out the TR quotes.

              Did you watch the embedded video of the interview? Naryshkin takes bald face lying to a new low.

                  As Vlad continues to prove Roosevelt correct. It's nice to hear him say he has no intention of using nukes, but that's what he'd say if he wanted our guard down.

                  As I've said before, there are two kinds of people in the world. The first kind tells you it's raining, and you think, "Oh. It's raining.". The second kind tells you the same thing and your reaction is "Now why would they want it to be raining?'.
