@Jolly said in New Plan for Pandemic Preparedness and Biodefence Strategy:

Shows how stupid they are. Every biological threat is different and needs to be approached a little differently.

    Doing nothing also doesn't help.

    From the article:
"The federal government also seeks to develop the infrastructure to distribute those tools [shots, drugs, tests] to Americans in a relatively short time should an outbreak occur. For example, the U.S. wants to develop and manufacture enough shots to cover the country’s population within 130 days following the emergence of a new viral threat, ..."

The drugs, shots, test kits may be different from pathogen to pathogen, but there may be common elements to the infrastructure to distribute them. There may be streamlining of certain processes to be made that will not depend much on the specific pathogens. Having a plan to identify build out these common elements and streamlining options wouldn't be a bad idea, no?

    Ventilators.

    I rest my case.

What's your alternative? Do nothing until the next pandemic shows up?

Of all the possibilities for what to do about stuff, “nothing” is an often underrated choice.

That my be. Is "nothing" your choice in this case?

What, specifically, do you think should be done to prepare for an as yet unknown pathogen?

What we should be doing now is saving money (stop spending please) and building our petroleum reserve (fracking and nice big pipelines will help).

Because if we have another pandemic it would really be nice to have some protection from that IDIOT!

Step 1) Don’t pay shady labs in China to play with deadly pathogens to see what happens.

Step 2) Repeat Step 1 with labs in the US.

Please by all means invest in Alberta heavy oil and oils sands. 3 times plus proven reserves of the Middle East already held by US oil companies and their subsidiaries. Cheap energy for the taking - royalties at 1.2%.

I seem to remember a lot of people blaming previous Presidents for not doing anything prior to Covid in preparation for a pandemic.

                Were they right all along?

                I was only joking

I have no problem with planning for it. I just want to know what, specifically, that plan should consist of.

                    Works for me.

                      @Jolly

No surprise, but you have more than a quart or two of savy about the O&G industry and how it works.
