One of my favorite parts of heart surgery was that moment after we'd restarted the heart, and before coming off the heart-lung machine, I started to breathe for the patient again.

Squeezing the bag on the anesthesia machine inflated the lungs, which had been collapsed during the pump run. They looked EXACTLY like this.
