Sunday afternoon on call - beautiful day in July. Got called in for precisely this injury. The victim was a pretty 25-26 year old girl who came off a jet-ski, at speed. She landed on her butt, tore the anal sphincter, and the force of the water caused a rectal (not anal) tear.
She ended up with a temporary colostomy while her rectum and sphincter healed.
A substantial percentage of tears develop some degree of rectal incontinence. I don't think that was her fate, fortunately.
