Yeah, well, get your pool and your barbecue ready, bro, because I'm moving right the hell into the neighborhood.
It's going to be annoying. I don't watch football. I drink weird tea shit in the mornings. I don't dress the way you think Men should and I listen to music you hate. You're going to roll your eyes when you see my cart at the grocery store.
But while you might roll your eyes, the next town over has went and gone insane. So, look, we're going to disagree, but I'd rather get along in Conservativeland than fend for myself in the Eastern Woke Territories. I won't ride my singlspeed through your lawn and I'm not going to try to convince you to buy oat milk. You can be a little more understanding that not everyone likes Reagan biopics. We can deal.

I'm not sure I'd want to live next door to that guy, to be honest.
Did I tell you about going to view a house and they had full size wooden cut-outs of the Trumps getting married on their lawn?
It was kind of the final straw for that address. I honestly don't mind somebody voting for the guy, but this was suspiciously like some kind of bizarre nativity scene.

Preach, Aqua, preach.
Real tolerance, not woke tolerance, without demonizing those of differing opinions.

It's weird. Nearly everyone in our area is either in the military, or have blue collar jobs. There's Trump shit everywhere. But it's also delightfully normal. Kids ride their bikes with fishing poles over the handlebars to get to the river. Retirees walk their dogs in the morning. People have manners.
It's nice, but I also have nothing in common with anyone whatsoever other than a shared attempt at getting along. I'd say it's like living in another country but that was actually far less of an adjustment.

Aren't most places normal? I live in the "liberal heartland", but people are just getting along, and getting on with life.
The problem with people who spend a lot of time writing on the internet, is they start to think it's real.

Sure, there is Trump lawn art in most neighborhoods in middle America.
The liberal heartland has its own forms of expression, you can't turn around in Massachusetts without seeing several of these.
Don't even bother to tells us you don't have a few on your lawn. -

Where we live, they do Halloween. Where we moved from, they banned it.
Where we live, I speak to Douglas a few mornings a week about his time overseas. We buy coffee at the same time, and that's the only reason I know him. Where I used to work, I'd watch the goin's on in the local Starbucks as I drank my morning coffee because I put off going to work. People used the drive-through and online ordering almost exclusively. Not a single person ever said anything to anyone. But there were green banners aplenty about Building One Community and Designated Safe Spaces.
Where we live, teens hang out at jungle gyms and when the little ones try to use it, they actually help them on the damn swings. Where we moved from, unchaperoned teens were constantly harassed by police when neighbors called the police on them. We saw that shit all the time.
Where we live, they sometimes ask me if I played basketball because of my height. (I did but sucked at it.) Where I used to work, I was told by HR that my height was a microaggression and it was incumbent upon me not to intimidate others by standing.
I suppose you could argue that all those things are about the same. But you know what, to me they absolutely fucking are not. I've fucking had it with liberal communities and their horseshit. I much prefer conservative communities, despite theirs.

Well, gracious me. At first I blew this thread off because of the title, but now that I've caught up, -- now that I've caught up what? I don't know what to say, except that if Aqua is right, D.C. is not the only place full of crazies.
My own community is behaviorally and probably culturally conservative, though not exclusively, I guess. I don't really know. Somebody opened a restaurant specializing in alligator meat that lasted about 12 minutes. I do know there's been progress since I moved here. When I'd been here a couple of weeks, a village down the road held a town meeting about its proximity to D.C. and the citizens' concern about fending off "glowing green" refugees after the Bomb went off.
Y'know, as if there'd be survivors and as if there'd be drivable roads for them to navigate on their way to safety. And cars.
So things are looking up.
Although maybe not. A couple of years ago there was a scare, you may recall, that the world was going to end on Saturday. Somebody told me later about being in the grocery store the previous Wednesday, and that the store was busier than usual because of people stocking up on groceries for when, y'know, the world ended.
But I can't comment with any precision on the mores and habits of the populace here, mostly. Early on I formed the habit of thinking of them as the Clone because there seems to be a fervent investment in all of them being exactly alike. You chat with one, it's like you've chatted with all of them. WTF is there to say?

That makes you wonder what might be buried there too. Steer clear lest ye be on some true crime podcast
