I have an Amazon Basics vertical mouse. I love the thing, because it doesn't require me to pronate my wrist, keeping it at a more "natural" position than a standard mouse (like the Apple "magic mouse.").

    For a trackpad, I'm using a 3M precision mousepad.

I find that the Amazon mouse (as well as an Anker mouse that I have) have problems tracking - they don't pick up when I move the mouse, and tracking frequently stops in mid-movement. Picking the mouse up off the trackpad and repositioning it seems to get me going. Nevertheless, it's a PITA.

On the other hand, the Apple mouse tracks flawlessly. Never fails, is accurate and easy to use. My only quibble is the required pronation of my wrist.

I've tried the 3M pad, as well as more "textured" mouse pads with similar results. Using the Amazon and Anker mice on bare wood have problems as well.

    Why is this?

I'm assuming these are optical mice?

I have similar issues. The mouse is optical, not mechanical. Not even sure if anyone makes a mechanical one any longer. But, same thing as you are experiencing. Especially frustrating when I'm editing a Word doc, and need to get precise, and want to do so quickly.

I do notice the unevenness when something is going on in the background, like Word auto-saving a large document, as if I ever make a mistake, or Malwarebytes on another fruitless scan.

Would like to find a comfortable mouse that works precisely and consistently. Get tired of the pick up and drop technique. It definitely impeds workflow.

Ax, what do you think, can you help us?

        @George-K Try Logitech.
        Why?
Because Logitech has been making mice for Macs a long time, have more experience dealing with Mac idiosyncrasies and more likely to have worked out more kinks with Macs.

@Rainman Get a Mac. SSD internal drive, 8 Gigabytes or more RAM, Intel i5 or i7 multicore CPU, i7 with 4 or more cores preferred. You perceiving “unevenness” when auto-saving a large file suggests the computer is not sufficiently powerful to meet your expectations, the jitters that contribute to your perception of “unevenness” may come from the mass storage subsystem, swap memory thrashing, or the CPU itself being too slow. To improve on all three, it’s easier to just get a new computer with better specs on all these three things.

Yeah, I've used Logitech products in the past, and they're great. I'll have to see if they have a reasonably-priced vertical mouse. If it ain't vertical, I don't want it, the Apple mouse does a great job of tracking, unlike the Amazon and Anker models.

@George-K Logitech has vertical mice for sure, just not necessarily “reasonably priced.”

Hey George. Do you have an iPad? It’s probably the favorite thing I own.

@George-K I use a Anker "vertical" mouse on a wooden (or maybe fake wood!!! LOL) desk top. So, i have not have a problem.

I have been pretty impressed with Anker "basic" electronic things - charging cables, power strip, etc.

Yeah, I do. However, I really prefer a desktop with a large screen.

I can have TNCR in one window and pr0nhub another site open next to it.
