This is easy! First off, measurement is closely associated with body shaming. Body shaming goes back to the late 1700s when certain sizes and body types were promoted to match the Anglo-Protestant Ideals. Being too large was looked at as a sign of gluttony and was associated with sin and a loss of the self-control that was so highly valued by the puritanical whites. In addition, the African slave women were generally larger and more curvaceous. So long as they were looked upon with lust by the white captors, then it damaged the ideals of racial superiority held by the European Colonizers, so a more slender body type had to be idealized. Measurements are a form of repression and control against all women, but black women in particular.

Honor codes are their legacy.
