I was having lunch with a violinist from the CSO a couple of years ago. We talked about my playing (she's never heard me, by the way), and I commented that one of my faults is my inability to sight read.
"It takes a lot of practice to look a measure ahead, " I commented.
"I imagine it does," she said. Try ten or twelve measures ahead."

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

To be fair, there are a lot less notes to look ahead at for a violinist than a pianist

I played the violin as a child. It was bloody difficult, but the reading wasn’t a problem if I’m honest . Pretty much everything else was however.
One of my biggest regrets is that I gave it up

I have been thinking that either the violin or bongo drums would be next.
I bought beginner books for both. I like both, violin would be much more difficult.
Then I went a new direction and bought the Tin Whistle. The price made the difference, 2 whistles for $18 - one tuned for the C scale, the other for D.
I can't read too far ahead yet. But I can keep up with Danny Boy. The trick is making sure you completely cover the hole, if you don't you get squeaky sounds.
