No idea. In the thread, someone suggested a bolus of heparin.
Another person commented that there is mitral stenosis (a narrowing of the mitral valve opening). That impairs blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle - that could cause the clot. But..because the valve opening is small, it also prevents the clot from migrating to the LV and causing severe damage downstream.

That made me think of when I get a piece of a stick in my finger. Hurts alot, can cause an infection, etc.
But when I am finally able to get it out, it usually is much much smaller than the pain and agony it caused. LOL
Same with blood clots I guess.
