It's a shithole state, literally in many places. Actually they don't put shit in holes so much as on the sidewalk. "Holes are for the homed". That's what they say, while they're shitting on the sidewalk.

    Education is extremely important.

I still like San Francisco, Napa, Pismo/SLO.

I could see retiring to the central coast

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Retirement is a long way away. You just keep your head down, keep grinding and saving, and maybe you can consider retirement in 20 years or so.

        Education is extremely important.

LA is a pit. The whole damn area. I've always said I don't know when the end of the world will be, but it will start in Los Angeles.

This morning I got my smog check for my car's registration. First time since I bought this car in 2013. They only make you check older cars. Here is some classic bay area scenery, in the waiting room of the smog check place.

In 2019, Mrs. George and I were going to do a West-Coast loop. Chicago to LA on the Southwest Chief for a couple of days, up the coast to San Francisco for a couple of days, and then back home on the California Zephyr.

We started talking about what to do in Los Angeles, and, frankly, I couldn't come up with anything I'd like to do.

We ended going to Denver instead.

Wow, that is pretty ugly for a California mechanic's waiting room.

Here is a picture of the waiting room at my mechanic here in Virginia.

I'm just a little surprised when these places have upholstered dumpster-sourced furniture with 50 years of accumulated dust, when they could get some new plastic chairs for $50.

@Horace the recliner - it is a recliner, right? - in the corner is a nice touch.

Also, tell me about the stains on the blue plastic chair. There was no odor, was there?

I should have included more of the other recliner in the other corner. I think it was the worst of the bunch. The whole place had an estate sale attic feel. It didn't smell bad though. And the proprietor was nice. Good experience, would go again.

With any small amount of luck, you'll be in Texas by the time it's necessary, and I don't think it'll be an issue.

I have to say I didn’t see much in the way of homeless encampments. A couple small ones. On my last visit (2020) I saw a lot more.

Even Venice Beach had few to none. I was pleasantly surprised.

What’s worse than LA? Flying home from LA during summer vacation season.

I left the hotel this morning at 6am local time, it’s 8pm and I’m still waiting for my bags at EWR.
