Fast forward to January 2022, only two Republican representatives remain on that lawsuit, even though most of them got reelected. Why? Because most of them have also been voting by proxy since the lawsuit was filed and Kevin McCarthy suggested that those who want to vote by proxy remove themselves from the lawsuit.
Face it, voting by proxy is a popular tool beloved and often utilized by congressional members of both parties. The GOP protected loudly at first, but most of them just go along with the practice. Go ahead and check, chances are your own congress critter has cast a few votes by proxy and you will continue to vote for him anyway.

Of course, you don’t care enough to not vote for your congressional representative even if he votes by proxy. That level of apathy is likely sufficient for your congressional representative to continue to vote by proxy from time to time in the future.

No, I've got enough sense not to be a one-issue voter and silo my disdain for one policy, while approving of others.
