I'd have sent the whole damn class home. Bunch of privileged assholes.

I promise you, the university could find another class within 2 weeks.

The overall message that the students wanted to push was that reproductive rights, abortion, is health care,”

A root canal is not considered health care and an elective birth control procedure is… Nice.

        First, do no harm.

Now, there are plenty of docs that are pro-choice. Plenty that are pro-life. As in the regular world, you're going to be working with people on both sides of the issue. You can disagree. You can try to persuade. But these are first year medical school students that probably haven't even been assigned a cadaver, dissing a practicing doctor.

        World has gone to hell...

I’m ok with the walkout. It’s this I can’t stand:

Prior to the ceremony, a group of students petitioned to have Collier replaced as the keynote speaker, CNN reports.

Walking out is a reasonable protest. It’s shouting down or otherwise attempting to silence that I can’t abide.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yeah, there's nothing world-gone-to-hellish about students expressing an opinion, about doctors or anything else. Doctors are not sacrosanct.

But like Jon said, it's their belief they have the power to dictate to and force their wishes on others that makes you want to kick their privileged butts.

You have to understand what a first year medical student is. I look at this somewhat like a college freshman majoring in business and before taking his first business class he attends a welcoming lecture. Since he decides he doesn't like the speaker's politics, he gets up and walks out on Jamie Dimon.

These med school students have accomplished nothing. They have treated no patients. They have never used a scalpel on a live human, written a prescription or delivered a baby. Depending on the school, as many as 20% will not make it.

No, the person behind that podium is not sacrosanct. But because they have M.D. behind their name, they have jumped through all kinds of hurdles to be accepted to medical school, then have survived the grind of four years of little sleep, intense study and increasing competition.

              Have some respect.
