    I've got a buddy running an older PC. Software is Windows 7. All he does is surf a bit on well-known sites, order some stuff from Amazon and use the computer for light spreadsheet work and word processing.

    He's been running Avast (probably the free version), but it won't load anymore.

    Suggestions ( buy a Mac is not one of them😁)?

      He can download and install a version of Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7. That should suffice.

          @Jolly If it's even still available, what Mik recommended is all he really needs. I haven't used anything except the Microsoft security apps that are built-in to Windows 10 for many years now. I was done having the other products slow my machine down and getting zero benefit from it.
